The Great Scheme of Mickey Mouse Land Politicians: The Opposition

Immediately after the individual made it clear that he would not sacrifice his dignity for money, the head of the government stepped in.

Mr. Merlot informed the individual that the verbal agreement had been canceled and that he would discuss the matter with the opposition before making a final decision.

It sounded very official.

Very serious.

Very democratic.

Or so it seemed.

The One-Hour Consultation

About an hour later, Mr. Merlot returned with the news.

The opposition had allegedly rejected the deal.

Therefore, according to him, the government would not pay the compensation.

The individual was confused.

If the law clearly states that compensation must be paid, why does the opposition get to vote on it?

And even if the opposition did object, why would the head of the government refuse to follow the law simply because another political party did not like the outcome?

The entire situation felt less like a legal process and more like asking the neighbors whether taxes should still exist.

The Mysterious Power of the Opposition

The individual quickly reached a different conclusion.

The opposition probably had said no but that’a not the whole thing.

Even if they had objected, that would not change the legal obligation.

But from his perspective, Mr. Merlot may have discovered a very convenient strategy:

If you do not want to take responsibility for a decision, simply blame someone else.

Why say, “I chose not to do it,” when you can say, “The opposition made me do it”?

It is a remarkable political invention.

Responsibility disappears, accountability evaporates, and everyone goes home happy.

Well… almost everyone.

From Compensation to Criminality

Unfortunately, the story did not end there.

According to the individual, once the compensation issue was pushed aside, a new plan emerged.

The next step was allegedly to create a trap that would paint the individual as a criminal applying to work with the very same mafia he had helped expose.

That is quite an impressive transformation.

One day, you are helping expose alleged wrongdoing.

The next day, you are apparently applying for a job with the people you exposed.

In Mickey Mouse Land, careers move very quickly.

And so the individual found himself asking yet another question:

Was this really a legal disagreement…

or had the game simply entered another level?
